Summer 2004

flagThe Summer 2004 holiday was held at Bilton Grange from Saturday, 24th. July ~ Saturday, 31st July, with 75 people attending, including 17 new people.

During the week we celebrated our 85th anniversary and particularly marked the 80th anniversary of the holidays first being held at Bilton Grange (see details to the right).

Volleyball, podex and the summer pentathlon were played between Apples, Bananas, Oranges and Plums, and the Oakley Olympics was celebrated, complete with flags, anthems and Greek gods.

As well as our traditional tiddlywinks and golf tournaments, we also held a chinese-themed picture treasure hunt and a water sports event.

Each day began with a very social visit to the swimming pool to practise the nominated 'Stroke of the Day'. We enjoyed the sub-tropical conditions - with a friendly crocodile, dolphin, shark and killer whale!

Afternoon activities ranged from ballet to bench ball, with many opportunities in between, including basketball, croquet, cycling, face painting, golf, various racquet sports, origami, padder tennis, play-reading and singing.

A range of branded merchandise was available for purchase in the afternoon.

party membersEvening entertainment included songs, sketches, and musical performances, as well as a picnic and a bonfire.

A wide range of topics was discussed during the week in both the evening and group discussions.

A trade game activity illustrated to everyone how difficult it can be for Third World businesses to prosper.

The entire party also walked or ran the "Sports Relief mile".

A charity collection was taken with donations shared equally between Sports Relief and Macmillan Cancer Relief. In total we raised £400 for these good causes.
