Julian Wilde, the secretary of Oakley Holidays, celebrated 50 years service to Oakley Holidays at the Summer 2010 holiday. Celebrations included two special cakes baked and decorated specially for the occasion by Beverley Kent and a presentation of gifts to mark the anniversary. The gifts included a book on golf courses, vouchers to buy a tree to plant and a special Oakley golf stick with commerative badges commerating memorable Oakley locations as well as one stating "Julian Wilde 50 Not Out."
Julian first came to Oakley when the holidays were held at Oakley Hall in Cirencester in 1960 as a pupil at Bristol Grammar School, and came to play a full part in the running of the holidays whilst studying at Oxford University. He took the pre-eminent role leading Oakley whilst teaching in Manchester and subsequently whilst a headmaster and school principal in Lincoln and Lytham St Annes. Now retired, Julian continues to lead the holidays as well as being secretary to the trustees.
To coincide with his 50 years service Julian was awarded an MBE in the 2010 New Year's Honours, and was invested by Prince Charles on April 23rd. You can read about the investiture here.
