Julian Wilde, the secretary of Oakley Holidays, who was awarded the M.B.E. in The Queen’s New Year Honours list for voluntary services to young people attended his Investiture at Buckingham Palace on St. George’s Day, April 23rd. He received his award from His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. “I enjoyed the atmosphere of celebration and happiness at the Palace,” said Julian “ and on St. George’s Day it was heartening to meet over 100 people who were being recognized for significant contributions to their local community all over our country. Prince Charles was warm in his congratulations to me and very interested in Oakley Holidays and my role in our organisation.” Julian first went to an Oakley Holiday at Cirencester whilst at school in Bristol and this summer marks his 50 years of attending Oakley.
Accompanying Julian to the Investiture were his sister Jackie who lives in Durham and two of the Trustees of Oakley Holidays, Kathy Sealy and Russel Bailey. After the ceremonies Julian was joined outside the Palace by other Oakley friends and the celebrations were continued at Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant at Claridge’s over lunch and tea. |
