59. Train for a triathlon

Oakley member Richard Leigh, aged 19, took part in his first triathlon in Rossendale, Lancashire in the summer of 2009 and was delighted and surprised to finish 98th out of 200 participants

· Could YOU do it?

· Richard’s event had a 400 metre swim, 20k bike ride and a 5k run but there are different levels of triathlon

· You can choose from Super-sprint (the shortest), Sprint, OlympicDouble/Triple, Olympic, Half, Full

· How much do you need to train? Richard, an accomplished distance runner, trained for six weeks, particularly on his swimming ( poorish ) and on the cycling which he does not particularly like!

· What equipment do you need? - bike, helmet, swim suit, goggles, googles, running shoes – ask Richard before paying out big money!

· For advice on fitness, training, equipment and events contact Richard Leigh, now in training for his 2nd triathlon by E mail or phone – he will be pleased to help
