What’s the point of buying lettuce grown in Spain, wrapped in plastic and flown over 700 miles to the UK ?

You can grow your own greens – lettuce, cress, peppers and chillis, for example – in window boxes or small pots, for just a few pence.

Is it difficult? Oakley member Jenny Thorne who lives in a flat in London can do it, so there must be hope for us all.

Jenny will be pleased to advise you how to get started, but it will be up to you to find out what growing conditions are like on your window sill or balcony.
