48. RUN THE LONDON MARATHON

Oakley member George Jolliffe spent his 19th birthday running the London Marathon on 26 April 2009. George gained a place in the race through his school, Stonyhurst College, and with his friend Nick raised £4000 for the mission work of the Society of Jesus.

George completed the course in just over 4 hours

How about you ? Could you do it? The next marathon, the 30th, is on Sunday 25 April 2010

Questions to consider include -

What are the chances of getting a place in the race?
155,000 applicants for 35,000 places this year

Can you commit yourself to the necessary training?

Are you going to train and run with a friend?

Are you aiming to raise money for a charity? What’s the best way to choose a charity and organise this fund-raising?

Who are your back-up team going to be on the race day? George had his parents and two sisters ( pictured here) to support him

Oakley Contact: George will be pleased to tell you about what he did this year and offer suggestions to those considering entering next time.

For details about how to apply to enter on-line, you need to look at the official website.

This is in the premier league of personal challenges, so plan very far ahead and think carefully – with friends and family – before you commit yourself.
