43. Become a tour guide!
In every part of the country organizations are looking for people as volunteer guides – for example you can work in cathedrals, castles, country parks and stately homes
You probably won’t get paid, and you will need to do some local training so you know what you’re talking about!
Oakley Trustee Lewis Kent works as a volunteer at Chichester Cathedral, meeting and greeting groups of schoolchildren and showing them round the building.
You can decide how much time you want to spend on this work – decide whether you can commit yourself on a regular day each week or month
It probably suits those in the sixth form or at university and may appeal especially to those with an interest in history or the natural world.
You will probably be fifty years younger than the average tour guide, but you will be made all the more welcome for that!
Have a look at Blue Badge Guides to see what professional guides do – you can even make a career out of it.
